The sound is clean and crisp, and the 1080p webcam produces a colorful, sharp image. Videos looked vivid and natural, making films pop and video feeds clear. The display is absolutely gorgeous, with bright, high-contrast colors. When it comes to watching movies and making video calls, the Surface Go 3 nails it. The touch screen display is excellent for movies and reading. The optional type cover has a smooth, velvety cloth interior and its keys feel firm without being overly stiff. Its MagSafe charger easily breaks away with a pull, and the side has a USB-C port and headphone jack. The Surface Go 3 nestles comfortably into my hands, with bezels thick enough to avoid accidentally tapping any Windows icons. However, it’s heavier compared to other similar tablets the iPad Air weighs exactly one pound and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 weighs 1.1 pounds. The Surface Go 3 is 0.33-inches thick, about as thick as the 2020 iPad Air. The back of the tablet has an incredibly sturdy kickstand, too. The platinum-colored magnesium chassis feels smooth and pleasant to hold, and the buttons are stiff but easy to click. If you gave the Surface Go 3 a cursory glance, you would be forgiven for thinking it’s way more expensive than it is. The magnesium body and sturdy kickstand give the Surface Go 3 an elegant feel. The Surface detachable type cover and the Surface stylus pen are sold separately for $99 each, which tacks on $200 to the total price of the laptop if you decide to buy those. The model we tested costs $629, although you can get a $399-version with an Intel Pentium Gold processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of eMMC storage, or a $549 model with the same Pentium processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of SSD storage. Accessories: None detachable Surface keyboard and Surface Pen sold separately.Weight: 1.2 lb (not including accessories).Ports: 1x USB-C port, 1x 3.5mm audio jack.Display: 10.5-inch 1080p PixelSense Display. Here are the specs of the tablet we tested: The Surface Go 3 is sold as a single tablet-the pen and keyboard are sold separately. KEY FEATURES: The Odyssey of a Reluctant Hero Frey’s journey through this strange and treacherous land will take her deep into the heart of corruption where she must battle monstrous creatures, confront the powerful Tantas, and uncover secrets that awaken something much more from within. Unaffected by the Break and desperate for answers, Frey reluctantly agrees to help the last remaining citizens of Athia who see her as their only hope. At the center of their shattered domains, the Tantas now rule as maddened and evil sorceresses. The Break transformed animals into beasts, men into monsters, and rich landscapes into four dangerous realms. Frey nicknames her new golden companion “Cuff” and sets off to find a way home.įrey soon learns this beautiful land once flourished under the reign of benevolent matriarchs, called Tantas, until a devastating blight relentlessly corrupted everything it touched. A magical, sentient bracelet is inexplicably wrapped around her arm, and Frey discovers the ability to cast powerful spells and use magic to traverse the sprawling landscapes of Athia. Mysteriously transported from New York City, Frey Holland finds herself trapped in the breathtaking land of Athia. Darkest Dungeon’s greatest delight is finding new ways to screw you.Ĭalling Darkest Dungeon merely “Lovecraftian” is a disservice to the mythology developer Red Hook has built here. A massive tentacle reached through it and grabbed my healer, shoving her to the front of the party and flipping my careful plan right on its ass. In the team’s first battle, an enemy summoner opened a portal to hell. I enjoyed experimenting with characters who could fight in a melee role from one spot, but a support role from another.ĭuring one of my early expeditions, I had poured through character sheets to find the perfect set of four heroes and assigned them in the perfect order. The most interesting classes are those in the middle. Most melee attacks can only be aimed at the front ranks, and some spells can only be cast from the middle of a group. The order of the heroes is important, with heavily armored tanks taking the front spot and spell-casters, archers, and healers holding in the back. I also enjoyed tinkering with character classes in different party positions. Your heroes can die just as easily from a heart attack as from a sword. It’s easy to do one or the other, but that’s not enough. When characters crack, they take on random debilitating traits like “abusive” or “afraid.” This is the well-executed balancing act of Darkest Dungeon: I love trying to keep people healthy and sane. Seeing a friend die or barely surviving a critical attack has a tendency to make people freak out. It’s hard enough keeping everyone alive, but battles put adventurers under a lot of stress, too. Battles are always tense, though, and I found myself dreading them as expeditions grew longer and more dangerous. Combat gets more fun as more character types arrive in town and new abilities get unlocked. Especially at the beginning of the game, I found the few characters and abilities available made these battles more of a slog. Combatants take turns using abilities to attack, heal, or cast spells. When your party of maniacs runs up against a squad of horrors, a short, turn-based battle starts. The treaties were meant to hamper such thinking but if the participants care little for repercussions of breaking them, then there stood little point in the agreements to begin with. In this fashion, the mighty warships - a total of five originally planned - could move throughout the Pacific realm with impunity and outgun and outlast any opponent that dared to stand in their way.īeyond the engineering challenges of developing these steel beasts were the political ones. Work on the Yamato-class was begun as soon as 1934 and engineers were given the challenge of generating a warship with no equal during the period - armed with powerful main guns, well protected through skillful use of armor plating, and offer performance unmatched for its size. These treaties mainly limited participants to ships of restricted tonnage so as to help thwart another naval arms race like the one that preceded the fighting of The Great War. Two ships were built to the standard under a high level of secrecy for there were still standing naval treaties that the Empire of Japan had signed onto with after World War 1 (1914-1918). This led to design and development of a new class of surface combatant, one that would eventually lead the IJN to possess the most powerful battleship class in the entire world, the Yamato-class. Knowing that the service would not be able to compete numerically with the American Navy - the prime threat to its expansionist dreams in the region - the IJN adopted a policy of quality over quantity. The Japanese expansion over the Pacific required a considerable naval force and this was to be directed by the powerful Imperial Japanese Navy arm prior to, and during all of, World War 2 (1939-1945). |
